Islamabad, April 8, 2026: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Wednesday announced what he described as a major diplomatic breakthrough, stating that the Islamic Republic of Iran and the United States of America, along with their allies, had agreed to an immediate and comprehensive ceasefire across all fronts, including Lebanon.

In a post on X, the prime minister said the ceasefire would take effect immediately, calling it a “sagacious gesture” by both sides and a significant step towards restoring peace in the region.

“I warmly welcome this development and extend my deepest gratitude to the leadership of both countries,” he said, praising their “remarkable wisdom and understanding” in pursuing de-escalation.

As part of the next phase of diplomatic engagement, the premier invited delegations from both nations to Islamabad on April 10 for high-level negotiations aimed at reaching a “conclusive agreement to settle all disputes.”

Sharif expressed optimism about the proposed “Islamabad Talks,” noting that both parties had remained constructively engaged in advancing the cause of peace and stability. He voiced hope that the dialogue would lead to sustainable peace and hinted at further positive developments in the coming days.

The announcement comes amid intensified diplomatic efforts by Pakistan to mediate between Tehran and Washington and facilitate a broader regional de-escalation.
