Islamabad, April 8, 2026: The Senate of Pakistan on Wednesday hosted a high-profile cultural and diplomatic event, unveiling a choral rendition of the national anthem while celebrating over six decades of bilateral relations between Pakistan and Romania.
The event brought together ambassadors of friendly countries, senators, and distinguished guests, underscoring the role of cultural diplomacy in strengthening international partnerships.
Proceedings began with an informal interaction between Chairman Senate Yousaf Raza Gillani and members of the diplomatic corps. This was followed by the inauguration of a special exhibition highlighting key milestones in Pakistan–Romania relations, including political engagement, economic cooperation, and cultural exchanges spanning more than 60 years.
The exhibition was jointly inaugurated by Chairman Gillani and Romania’s Ambassador to Pakistan Dan Stoenescu through a ribbon-cutting ceremony. Diplomats and parliamentarians toured the displays, reflecting a shared commitment to deepening bilateral cooperation.
A key highlight of the event was the performance of Pakistan’s national anthem, Qaumi Tarana, in a historic choral arrangement by the renowned Romanian ensemble Madrigal – Marin Constantin National Chamber Choir. The performance took place during the opening of the Senate plenary session in the presence of lawmakers and foreign dignitaries.
Speaking on the occasion, Chairman Gillani recalled that Romania had presented Pakistan with the first-ever professional choral arrangement and written musical score of the national anthem on Pakistan Day. He described the initiative as a landmark cultural gesture that coincided with Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts for peace in the Middle East.
He expressed appreciation to Romanian authorities for their support, noting that the project symbolises a lasting cultural bridge between the two countries, rooted in mutual respect and shared aspirations for stronger ties.
Senators from both treasury and opposition benches also lauded Romania’s contribution, terming it a historic and meaningful gesture of friendship.
