Islamabad, April 15,2026: The Asia Pacific Geopolitical Group convened a key meeting on the sidelines of the Inter-Parliamentary Union Assembly in Islamabad, bringing together parliamentary delegates from across the region to deliberate on peace, regional cooperation, and international security.

The meeting featured constructive dialogue highlighting the importance of parliamentary diplomacy and collaborative approaches to address emerging geopolitical challenges. Participants underscored the need to promote regional stability, strengthen mutual understanding, and enhance cooperation among Asia-Pacific nations.

Pakistan’s national delegation included Azam Nazeer Tarar, Farhan Chishti, Asad Alam Niazi, Amir Waliuddin Chishti, Muhammad Talha Mahmood, Syed Shamoon Hashmi, and Naqash Zafar. Delegates reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to democratic values, multilateral cooperation, and regional peace.

In line with the government’s ongoing austerity measures, members of parliament attending the IPU Assembly are participating at their own expense. The move reflects a conscious effort to ensure prudent use of public resources while maintaining active engagement in international parliamentary affairs.

The meeting concluded with a reaffirmation of the Asia Pacific Geopolitical Group’s resolve to enhance coordination among member parliaments and contribute proactively within the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) framework, reinforcing the role of parliamentary diplomacy in fostering global peace and cooperation.
