Beijing, April 15, 2026: Chinese President Xi Jinping on Wednesday called on China and Vietnam to jointly oppose unilateralism and protectionism, underscoring the importance of strengthening cooperation to safeguard global economic stability.
Speaking during talks with To Lam, who is on a state visit to China, Xi emphasized the need for both nations to uphold the principles of peace, development, cooperation, and mutual benefit.
Xi, who also serves as General Secretary of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, stressed that Beijing and Hanoi should work together to protect the international free trade system and ensure the stability and resilience of global industrial and supply chains.
“Both sides should safeguard the global free trade system and keep the industrial and supply chains stable and unimpeded,” he said during the meeting.
The Chinese leader highlighted the importance of deepening bilateral ties amid shifting geopolitical and economic dynamics, noting that enhanced cooperation between the two neighbors would contribute to regional stability and sustainable development.
To Lam, who also holds the position of General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee, is visiting China as part of efforts to strengthen strategic partnership and expand economic collaboration between the two countries.
The high-level engagement reflects the shared commitment of China and Vietnam to promote multilateralism, foster economic integration, and support an open and inclusive global trading order.
