Islamabad, April 30,2026: Speaker National Assembly, Sardar Ayaz Sadiq has said that Labour Day is a tribute to the dignity, struggle and vital contributions of workers towards the country’s development and prosperity.

In his message on the occasion of Labour Day, the National Assembly speaker said labourers form the backbone of society and that no nation can achieve progress without their hard work, dedication and commitment.

He said the day commemorates the historic struggle of workers in Chicago, who made immense sacrifices for fundamental rights, fair wages, reasonable working hours and safe working conditions. He added that Labour Day also serves as an occasion to renew commitments towards the protection and welfare of workers.

The speaker said Islam accords great respect and dignity to labour, while the teachings of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) strongly emphasise the rights of workers. He noted that timely payment of wages is a religious, moral and social responsibility.

Ayaz Sadiq stressed that the state must ensure safe working environments, fair wages, social protection, and access to health and education facilities for workers. He said the Parliament of Pakistan remains committed to strengthening legislative and policy measures for the welfare and dignity of the working class.

He also underlined the importance of skill development, vocational training and enhanced employment opportunities, saying that an empowered workforce is essential for a strong and prosperous Pakistan.

Meanwhile, Syed Ghulam Mustafa Shah said the working class is a key pillar of the national economy and that sustainable development cannot be achieved without ensuring workers’ welfare.

In his separate message on Labour Day, the deputy speaker called for collective efforts to protect workers’ rights, improve their living standards and ensure socio-economic stability. He said a just and prosperous society is built upon the dignity, welfare and protection of workers.
