Amsterdam, May 4, 2026: The Netherlands on Monday observed National Remembrance Day, paying tribute to Dutch victims of the World War II as well as those who lost their lives in subsequent wars and conflict situations.
The annual observance, held every year on May 4, marks a solemn occasion across the country, with citizens pausing to remember the sacrifices made for freedom and peace.
This year’s commemorations marked 81 years since the end of the Second World War. Ceremonies and gatherings were held in several cities, including Amsterdam, where people reflected on the courage of those who fought and sacrificed their lives during the war.
As part of the observance, the country held a nationwide moment of silence to honor the memory of the victims and liberators whose efforts paved the way for the freedoms enjoyed today.
