Islamabad, May 6,2026: A technical delegation led by the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA) concluded a working visit to Pakistan aimed at enhancing bilateral cooperation in flood management, climate resilience, and early warning systems.
The delegation, comprising experts from Türkiye’s Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change, the General Directorate of State Hydraulic Works (DSİ), and the General Directorate for Water Management, engaged in extensive consultations with key Pakistani institutions. These included the Federal Flood Commission, Pakistan Meteorological Department, National Disaster Management Authority, Water and Power Development Authority, and the Ministry of Climate Change and Environmental Coordination.
A key highlight of the visit was a high-level meeting with Climate Change Secretary Aisha Humera Chaudhary and senior ministry officials. Discussions focused on strengthening cooperation and sharing best practices in flood and disaster management between the two countries.
Both sides exchanged insights on ongoing and planned initiatives, including water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH), river basin and flood management, glacier and avalanche monitoring, desertification and erosion control, and the development of climate-resilient infrastructure. Cooperation in early warning systems and hydrometeorological observation technologies also featured prominently.
In addition, the discussions explored collaboration in zero-waste initiatives, institutional capacity building, technical training, and joint research projects aimed at improving climate adaptation and disaster resilience.
The Turkish delegation also conducted field visits to key hydrometeorological and flood management sites in Islamabad, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Lahore. These included telemetry-based hydro-met stations, flood-affected river zones, and operational forecasting centers, where experts from both countries shared perspectives on data-driven risk monitoring, integrated flood forecasting systems, and community-based resilience strategies.
The visit underscores the longstanding partnership between Türkiye and Pakistan and reflects a shared commitment to addressing the growing challenges of climate change, extreme weather events, and disaster risks through enhanced technical cooperation.
