Islamabad, May 7, 2026: Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar on Thursday chaired a high-level meeting to review Pakistan’s preparations for assuming the Chairmanship of the Council of Heads of State (CHS) of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization for the 2026–27 term.
The meeting focused on assessing ongoing preparations and ensuring effective coordination among relevant ministries and departments ahead of the SCO CHS Summit scheduled to be hosted by Pakistan in 2027.
During the meeting, Dar directed all concerned ministries and departments to undertake comprehensive planning and coordination to ensure the successful organisation of the summit at both logistical and substantive levels.
The deputy prime minister emphasized that Pakistan attaches great importance to the SCO framework as a key platform for regional cooperation, connectivity and multilateral engagement.
He said Pakistan’s upcoming chairmanship would reflect the country’s commitment to promoting regional stability, economic cooperation and stronger diplomatic engagement among member states.
Dar also stressed the need for timely execution of preparations, enhanced inter-agency coordination and maintaining high standards in all arrangements related to the summit.
The meeting was attended by Special Assistant to the Prime Minister Tariq Bajwa, SAPM on Foreign Affairs Tariq Fatemi, Foreign Secretary Amna Baloch, senior officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Interior Ministry, the Capital Development Authority, Islamabad Police and other relevant departments.
