Islamabad, May 12, 2026: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif held a telephone conversation with President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev on Tuesday evening, during which both leaders reaffirmed the strong fraternal relations between the two countries.
According to an official statement, the two leaders discussed ways to further expand cooperation in key sectors including trade, investment, energy, and people-to-people exchanges.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif conveyed his best wishes for the upcoming World Urban Forum scheduled to be held in Baku next week, expressing confidence that under President Aliyev’s leadership, the forum would contribute meaningfully to the global urban development agenda. He also confirmed that Pakistan would be well represented at the event.
The two leaders also exchanged views on regional developments, particularly ongoing peace efforts in the Middle East.
The prime minister appreciated President Aliyev’s remarks acknowledging Pakistan’s efforts to promote peace, dialogue, and diplomacy in the region, and reiterated Islamabad’s continued commitment to constructive engagement for regional stability.
