Islamabad, May 19, 2026: The National Assembly of Pakistan on Tuesday launched the country’s first AI-enabled parliamentary system and initiated the AI-powered digital transformation of the Speaker’s Office during a soft launch ceremony held at Parliament House in Islamabad.
The initiative, aimed at promoting smart and efficient legislation, has been launched under the leadership of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif in line with the vision of Speaker National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq and the Digital Nation Pakistan Vision.
Addressing the ceremony, Sardar Ayaz Sadiq said digitalization plays a vital role in improving institutional efficiency and transparency. He noted that, as part of efforts to establish a paperless Parliament, all members of the National Assembly had already been provided with iPads due to the large volume of documents processed daily.
He said the ongoing digital transformation would eventually lead to a fully paperless and digitally integrated Parliament.
The speaker also appreciated the support of National Information Technology Board and the Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication, stressing the importance of continued collaboration to strengthen the initiative further.
He additionally acknowledged the efforts of MNA Syeda Amnah Batool for coordinating and spearheading the project.
Federal Minister for IT and Telecommunication Shaza Fatima Khawaja termed the initiative a significant step towards Pakistan’s broader digital transformation and reaffirmed the ministry’s support for modernizing parliamentary operations through technology.
Chairman of the Standing Committee on Information Technology and Telecommunication Syed Amin-ul-Haque described the initiative as a milestone in Pakistan’s parliamentary history, saying the National Assembly was steadily evolving into an AI-enabled Parliament under the leadership of Speaker Ayaz Sadiq.
He noted that digitalization of institutional processes was essential in modern knowledge-based economies to enhance transparency, governance, and efficiency.
According to the National Assembly Secretariat, the AI-enabled parliamentary system has been developed in collaboration with the National Information Technology Board and is designed to facilitate lawmakers in conducting parliamentary business in a more efficient, structured, and technology-driven manner.
The system aims to improve access to parliamentary information, streamline workflows, and strengthen coordination among parliamentary functions to support informed and timely legislative decision-making.
Officials said the platform is a highly secure, fully on-premises AI system developed exclusively for parliamentary use, ensuring complete data sovereignty. All parliamentary data will remain hosted within Pakistan under the control and custody of the National Assembly.
The initiative also aligns with the government’s austerity measures and supports Sustainable Development Goal 12 by reducing reliance on paper-based processes and improving resource efficiency.
The ceremony was attended by parliamentarians, senior officials of the National Information Technology Board, civil society representatives, media personnel, and other distinguished guests.
