PM Shehbaz meets UK National Security Adviser, reaffirms commitment to stronger bilateral ties

Islamabad, May 20, 2026: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Wednesday met Jonathan Powell, National Security Advisor of United Kingdom (UK) at the Prime Minister’s House, where both sides discussed regional diplomacy and expanding bilateral cooperation between Pakistan and the United Kingdom.

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Muhammad Ishaq Dar, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister Tariq Fatemi, Foreign Secretary Amna Baloch and Secretary National Security Division Sajid Baloch were also present during the meeting.

During the discussion, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to maintaining robust and forward-looking engagement with the United Kingdom, which he described as a longstanding strategic partner.

The prime minister also conveyed his best wishes to British Prime Minister Keir Starmer and recalled their recent telephone conversation held last month, during which both leaders expressed a shared desire to further strengthen Pakistan-UK relations.

Jonathan Powell conveyed the appreciation of the British government for Pakistan’s constructive role in regional diplomacy, including efforts aimed at facilitating dialogue and promoting de-escalation in the broader region.

The UK national security adviser also congratulated the Pakistani government on its economic reform initiatives and expressed Britain’s strong interest in further expanding cooperation with Pakistan in the fields of security, trade, investment, and development.
