Islamabad, May 21, 2026: Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif has reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to promoting cultural diversity, dialogue, and sustainable development as the country joined the international community in observing the World Day for Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development on Thursday.

In his message on the occasion, the Prime Minister paid tribute to individuals and communities around the world, particularly in Pakistan, who continue to celebrate and preserve the richness of culture, civilization, and shared human heritage.

He said the observance of the day underscores the importance of cultural heritage in fostering social inclusion, mutual respect, and intellectual solidarity at both national and international levels.

Describing Pakistan as a vibrant nation enriched with diverse cultures, languages, traditions, and civilizational values, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said the country’s cultural diversity remains a defining feature of its national identity and a major source of collective strength. He noted that these positive cultural values play a vital role in promoting national unity, tolerance, harmony, and mutual respect within society.

The Prime Minister said the Government of Pakistan remains firmly committed to preserving and promoting the country’s diverse cultural heritage through a comprehensive policy framework. He highlighted the active role of the National Heritage and Culture Division in safeguarding, documenting, and promoting both tangible and intangible cultural assets.

He further stated that strengthening cultural institutions, supporting artisans and creative communities, and integrating cultural initiatives into national development planning remain among the government’s key priorities.

At the international level, the Prime Minister said Pakistan is continuing efforts to secure greater global recognition for its unique traditions and heritage. In this regard, he referred to recent initiatives seeking the inscription of Ajrak, Rabab, and Glacier Grafting on UNESCO’s cultural heritage lists.

He also highlighted various initiatives launched to empower artisans and expand their access to national and international markets, including the “Creative Economy Accelerator” and other related programs. According to the Prime Minister, the “Digital Cultural Platform” and the “Heritage Marketplace” have also been introduced to promote Pakistani cultural products globally and generate employment opportunities.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said the establishment of the “Centre of Excellence for National Cohesion and Outreach (CENCO)” reflects the government’s commitment to promoting national harmony, dialogue, and cultural cohesion.

He emphasized that these initiatives collectively demonstrate the government’s vision of recognizing culture as a powerful driver of sustainable development, social cohesion, and economic opportunity.

Calling upon civil society, educational institutions, youth, and other stakeholders to play their role in preserving and promoting Pakistan’s cultural heritage and shared values, the Prime Minister stressed the need for collective efforts to strengthen national unity, harmony, and intellectual solidarity across society.
