Islamabad, May 22, 2026: Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar chaired a meeting of the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC), where several key development projects aimed at strengthening infrastructure, public services, and economic resilience across Pakistan were approved.
According to an official statement, the approved initiatives cover all provinces and regions, reflecting the government’s focus on balanced national development and improved socio-economic conditions.
Among the major projects approved during the meeting were the detailed design of the ML-1 railway project, development of the Havelian Dry Port, access works for the Lowari Tunnel, Thar Coal Rail Connectivity, the Kachhi Canal project, and irrigation improvement schemes in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The meeting also approved projects related to Jinnah Hospital Islamabad, the Sindh Human Capital 1000 Days Programme, flood rehabilitation support for Sindh, and arrangements linked to the Diamer-Bhasha Dam.
Addressing the meeting, Ishaq Dar reaffirmed the government’s commitment to infrastructure development, enhanced public services, regional balance, and long-term economic stability.
The ECNEC meeting was attended by the federal ministers for finance and planning, Punjab’s minister for planning and development, Sindh’s irrigation minister, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister Tariq Bajwa, secretaries of Economic Affairs, Health, Water Resources, Planning, and senior officials from relevant ministries.
