Islamabad, May 28,2026: Chairman Senate Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani on Thursday congratulated the nation on the occasion of Youm-e-Takbeer, stating that May 28 remains a glorious and unforgettable day in Pakistan’s history when the country emerged as a sovereign and strong nuclear power through its successful nuclear tests.
In his message to the nation, the Chairman Senate said Youm-e-Takbeer is not merely a historic occasion but a shining symbol of national pride, unity, sacrifice, and unwavering determination.
He said the day serves as a reminder that when the leadership and people stand united behind a common purpose, no force can obstruct Pakistan’s progress and stability.
Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani paid rich tribute to the political and military leadership, scientists, engineers, and national institutions that contributed to the success of Pakistan’s nuclear program.
He particularly acknowledged the role of former Prime Minister Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, stating that his visionary leadership laid the foundation of Pakistan’s nuclear program and transformed the dream of a secure and strong Pakistan into a national mission.
The Chairman Senate also paid tribute to former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto, saying she remained committed to advancing and safeguarding Pakistan’s strategic capabilities during a critical phase of the country’s history.
He noted that despite international pressure and regional challenges, Benazir Bhutto played a significant role in ensuring the continuity and strengthening of Pakistan’s nuclear and missile programs. He added that her vision, courage, and commitment to national interests contributed greatly to Pakistan’s strategic advancement and security.
Gilani further stated that the successful nuclear tests conducted on May 28, 1998, during the tenure of former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif marked the culmination of decades of national effort and determination.
He said the historic decision to proceed with the nuclear tests despite immense international pressure demonstrated Pakistan’s unwavering resolve to safeguard its sovereignty and national security, while also establishing strategic balance in South Asia.
The Chairman Senate emphasized that Pakistan today requires the same spirit of national unity, solidarity, and determination to overcome economic and regional challenges as demonstrated by the nation on Youm-e-Takbeer.
He urged all political forces to work together on matters relating to national security, defense, and stability, and called upon the younger generation to contribute in the fields of education, research, science, and technology for a stronger and more developed Pakistan.
In his concluding remarks, Gilani prayed for Pakistan’s peace, prosperity, and protection from internal and external threats, expressing hope that the country would continue to emerge as a symbol of peace, progress, and stability in the world.
