Islamabad, June 13, 2026: In a landmark development for Pakistan football, the national team has secured entry into the inaugural FIFA ASEAN Cup, marking the country’s first-ever participation in a FIFA-organised tournament outside World Cup and continental qualification events.
According to sources, Pakistan received an official invitation from FIFA to compete in the newly launched competition, which the Pakistan Football Federation (PFF) has accepted.
The tournament is scheduled to take place in Indonesia from September 21 to October 6, bringing together teams from across the region in a new initiative aimed at expanding competitive opportunities in international football.
Pakistan will compete in Division 1, alongside regional football sides including India, hosts Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, and Thailand, setting the stage for a highly competitive contest.
The participation is being described as a historic milestone for Pakistan football, as it marks the national team’s first appearance in a FIFA tournament of this nature, offering an important platform for international exposure and competitive development.
Officials and sources noted that Pakistan’s inclusion follows increasing engagement between FIFA and Pakistan Football Federation President Mohsen Gilani, which played a role in facilitating the country’s entry into the tournament.
The development is expected to provide Pakistan football with a valuable opportunity to test its squad against established regional opponents and contribute to the sport’s revival in the country, where efforts are ongoing to rebuild infrastructure and competitive performance at the international level.
