Broadcasters urge ICC to release Champions Trophy 2025 schedule amid India-Pakistan tensions

Dubai, November 14, 2024- Broadcasters are urging the International Cricket Council (ICC) to promptly release the schedule for the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy, which was originally anticipated earlier this week. The delay follows the Indian government’s advisory against its national cricket team traveling to Pakistan for the tournament, sparking uncertainty about the event’s scheduling.

With a record $3 billion broadcast rights deal covering ICC events through 2027, broadcasters emphasize that early scheduling is crucial to effectively promote marquee matches, especially high-stakes India-Pakistan games. These matches draw massive global audiences and are central to maximizing advertising revenue and viewership, making them vital for broadcasters’ financial planning and promotional strategies.

On November 9, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) notified the ICC of the Indian government’s stance, citing security concerns and longstanding political tensions. While India has not toured Pakistan since the 2008 Asia Cup, Pakistan has made multiple trips to India, including for the ICC Men’s World Cup in 2023. Broadcasters argue that finalizing and releasing the schedule soon would allow them to optimize commercial efforts for these widely anticipated matches, despite current diplomatic challenges.Bottom of Form
