Islamabad, June 16, 2026: Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar held a telephone conversation with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi on Tuesday, during which both leaders welcomed the understandings reached under the Iran–United States Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) and emphasized the importance of continued diplomatic engagement for lasting regional peace.

According to the Foreign Office, the two leaders described the consensus reached between Iran and the United States as a significant step towards promoting sustainable peace, stability, and dialogue in the region.

During the conversation, Wang Yi, who is also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, commended Pakistan’s proactive diplomatic outreach and mediation efforts, stating that Islamabad had played a constructive role in creating conducive conditions for sustained engagement between Tehran and Washington.

The Chinese foreign minister appreciated Pakistan’s contribution to advancing international peace and stability and acknowledged its efforts in facilitating dialogue between the two sides.

Ishaq Dar, in turn, thanked China for its consistent support for Pakistan’s diplomatic initiatives aimed at encouraging negotiations and peaceful engagement between Iran and the United States. He also acknowledged Beijing’s broader role in promoting regional peace and stability.

The deputy prime minister particularly highlighted the importance of the four-point proposal put forward by Chinese President Xi Jinping, as well as the Pakistan-China Five-Point Initiative, describing both as important contributions toward fostering peace and reducing tensions in the region.

Both leaders stressed the need for effective implementation of the understandings reached between the parties and underscored the importance of maintaining dialogue to peacefully resolve all outstanding issues.

The two foreign ministers also discussed the strategic significance of the Strait of Hormuz, emphasizing that its continued opening remains vital for global trade, energy security, and economic stability.

During the conversation, the two sides reviewed the outcomes of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s recent visit to China and agreed to ensure robust follow-up on decisions and agreements reached during the trip.

Dar emphasized the importance of advancing cooperation under the next phase of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC 2.0) and further strengthening bilateral economic, trade, and investment ties between the two countries.

Reaffirming the strength of the Pakistan-China strategic partnership, both sides agreed to remain in close contact and continue consultations on key bilateral, regional, and international issues of mutual interest.
