Islamabad, June 17, 2026: Pakistan and Rwanda have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral economic relations, with both sides exploring new avenues for trade, investment and commercial cooperation during a high-level meeting held in Islamabad on Wednesday.

Coordinator to the Prime Minister on Commerce Rana Ihsaan Afzal Khan met with Harerimana Fatou, High Commissioner of the Republic of Rwanda to Pakistan, who was accompanied by Defence Attaché Col. Shyaka K. Ismail.

The meeting focused on matters of mutual interest and opportunities to deepen economic engagement between the two countries through enhanced trade and business cooperation.

During the discussions, both sides stressed the importance of increasing bilateral trade and fostering stronger links between the private sectors of Pakistan and Rwanda. They highlighted the role of business-to-business (B2B) engagement in identifying new opportunities for investment, joint ventures and commercial partnerships.

Rana Ihsaan Afzal Khan reiterated Pakistan’s interest in expanding economic relations with Rwanda and emphasized the need to strengthen institutional and commercial linkages to facilitate greater trade flows.

The participants also discussed prospects for enhancing Pakistan’s economic cooperation with the East African Community (EAC), including progress on a potential agreement aimed at facilitating trade and improving market access. Both sides acknowledged the significant potential for expanding economic ties between Pakistan and East African countries.

Trade facilitation measures also came under discussion, particularly the need for improved banking channels and financial mechanisms to support smoother commercial transactions and encourage greater participation by businesses from both countries.

The meeting provided an opportunity for an exchange of views on a wide range of economic issues and explored practical measures to strengthen cooperation in areas of shared interest.

Both sides expressed their desire to maintain regular engagement and continue working together to translate economic opportunities into tangible outcomes through sustained dialogue and collaboration.

The meeting concluded with a shared commitment to further deepen bilateral relations and promote mutually beneficial trade and investment cooperation between Pakistan and Rwanda.
