Islamabad, June 21,2026: The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued a nationwide weather alert, warning of thunderstorms, strong winds, heavy rainfall, urban flooding and glacial lake outburst flood (GLOF) risks in several parts of the country over the next 12 to 24 hours.
According to the NDMA’s National Emergencies Operation Centre (NEOC), the forecast weather pattern is in line with the seasonal outlook issued several months ago. The authority said it has been continuously sharing advance warnings and risk assessments with federal, provincial and district administrations to support preparedness and timely response measures.
The weather system is expected to bring rain accompanied by thunderstorms, windstorms and dust storms across large parts of Pakistan.
The NDMA forecast rainfall in Islamabad and several districts of Punjab, including Rawalpindi, Murree, Attock, Chakwal, Talagang, Mandi Bahauddin, Sargodha, Gujar Khan, Gujrat, Jhelum, Sialkot, Gujranwala, Hafizabad, Lahore, Faisalabad, Khushab, Jhang, Mianwali, Dera Ghazi Khan, Kasur, Okara, Sahiwal, Multan, Bahawalpur and Rahim Yar Khan.

The NDMA has separately warned of a heightened risk of Glacial Lake Outburst Floods (GLOF) in vulnerable areas of Gilgit-Baltistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Azad Kashmir.
According to the alert, sudden glacier-related flooding could trigger flash floods, landslides and debris flows in mountainous regions, posing risks to local communities, infrastructure and road networks.
District administrations and relevant agencies have been directed to maintain continuous monitoring of vulnerable locations and remain on high alert. Rescue and emergency response teams have also been instructed to ensure operational readiness to respond to any developing situation.
The NDMA has advised tourists and travellers to avoid unnecessary travel during periods of intense rainfall and to check weather forecasts and road conditions before heading to northern areas.
Authorities warned that heavy rainfall could lead to road closures, landslides and disruptions to transportation routes in mountainous regions.
Citizens have been urged to stay informed through the NDMA Disaster Alert mobile application and immediately contact local administration or rescue services in the event of an emergency.
The NDMA said all provincial and district authorities have been directed to remain vigilant and take precautionary measures to minimize the potential impact of the incoming weather system.
