Islamabad, June 23, 2026: Speaker National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq has reiterated his commitment to upholding the Constitution, parliamentary traditions, and the dignity of the House during the ongoing Budget Session 2026-27, emphasizing that freedom of expression in Parliament must remain within constitutional and procedural boundaries.
Responding to remarks made by the Leader of the Opposition during the session, the Speaker stated that if any constitutional violation had been committed on his part, it should be clearly identified. He maintained that statements made outside Parliament regarding raising a private force from every household, supporting a foreign country against Pakistan, or making derogatory remarks against the armed forces, judiciary, and other state institutions would not be permitted on the floor of the House.
Sardar Ayaz Sadiq stressed that parliamentary freedom of speech must be exercised in accordance with the Constitution, parliamentary rules, and established democratic norms. He said preventing anti-state, anti-institutional, or inflammatory remarks from being made in the House does not constitute a violation of constitutional rights.
“The sanctity and dignity of Parliament remain my foremost responsibility,” the Speaker said, adding that maintaining decorum in the House is essential for the effective functioning of democratic institutions.
The Speaker also observed that while some members criticize Parliament and question its legitimacy, they continue to utilize parliamentary forums and often seek opportunities to speak beyond their allotted time. He emphasized that democratic institutions should be strengthened through constructive engagement and mutual respect.
Highlighting the importance of parliamentary committees, Sardar Ayaz Sadiq said they play a critical role in the legislative process, oversight, and policymaking. He urged members to actively participate in committee proceedings to ensure effective governance and accountability.
During the session, the Speaker underscored the need for political unity on matters concerning the national interest. He said all political parties and parliamentarians must rise above partisan considerations whenever Pakistan’s sovereignty, stability, and interests are at stake.
In separate remarks, Sardar Ayaz Sadiq described the Senate as an integral part of Parliament and termed senators valued colleagues within Pakistan’s parliamentary system. He advised members to avoid comments that could be construed as criticism of fellow parliamentarians and stressed the importance of maintaining mutual respect and harmony between both Houses of Parliament.
The Speaker reiterated that strengthening democratic institutions and fostering cooperation among elected representatives are essential for addressing national challenges and advancing Pakistan’s democratic process.
