Islamabad, August 9(Sub News)Chairman Senate of Pakistan, Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani, has said that the first session of the Constituent Assembly on August 10, 1947, marked the beginning of Pakistan’s parliamentary journey and was a historic expression of the democratic aspirations of the nation’s founding leadership. He said democracy, constitutional supremacy, rule of law and strong parliamentary institutions are essential for national unity, political stability, sustainable development and public prosperity.

Chairman Senate said Parliament is the true forum for representing the aspirations of the people through legislation, dialogue and democratic debate. He highlighted the Senate’s vital role in strengthening the federation by ensuring equal representation of the federating units and promoting national cohesion. He called upon all political forces to uphold parliamentary traditions of tolerance, mutual respect, dialogue and consensus in the larger national interest.

Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani reaffirmed the Senate’s commitment to strengthening democracy, constitutional governance and effective parliamentary institutions. He stressed the importance of engaging youth with Pakistan’s democratic and constitutional journey and embracing modern technology to make Parliament more accessible and responsive. “A strong Parliament is the foundation of a strong federation and a stable, prosperous Pakistan. Our collective responsibility is to protect and strengthen our democratic legacy for future generations,” the Chairman Senate said.
