Islamabad, June 30, 2026: Deputy Chairman Senate Syedaal Khan Nasar on Tuesday reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to strengthening democratic institutions, upholding constitutional supremacy, and promoting inclusive and representative governance as the country observed the International Day of Parliamentarism.

In a message issued on the occasion, Syedaal Khan Nasar described Parliament as the cornerstone of every democratic state, where the aspirations and voices of the people are translated into constitutional and legislative action. He said Parliament serves as the principal forum for shaping national policies, safeguarding the public interest, and determining the country’s future through democratic consensus.

The Deputy Chairman noted that the International Day of Parliamentarism, observed annually on June 30, highlights the importance of strong, sovereign, and effective parliamentary institutions in ensuring democratic stability, the rule of law, transparent governance, and public trust.

He said an active Parliament not only addresses citizens’ concerns through effective legislation but also plays a vital role in promoting national unity, social justice, and sustainable development.

Syedaal Khan Nasar said the Senate of Pakistan remains fully committed to fulfilling its constitutional responsibilities by promoting federal harmony, strengthening democratic traditions, and safeguarding constitutional supremacy. He emphasized that effective legislation, meaningful public representation, parliamentary oversight, and enhanced inter-parliamentary cooperation are essential pillars of a strong democratic system.

Highlighting the growing significance of parliamentary diplomacy in an evolving global landscape, he said parliaments have an increasingly important role in advancing international cooperation, promoting regional peace, strengthening mutual respect, and addressing shared global challenges. He reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to expanding engagement with the international parliamentary community and deepening cooperation with parliamentary institutions worldwide.

The Deputy Chairman also stressed that the meaningful participation and effective representation of women, youth, and all segments of society are indispensable for building an inclusive and resilient democratic system. He said prosperous and stable societies are those where every citizen enjoys equal opportunities, effective representation, and meaningful participation in national decision-making.

Concluding his message, Syedaal Khan Nasar paid tribute to parliamentarians across the world for their dedication to advancing democracy, peace, justice, and human dignity. He reiterated Pakistan’s resolve to further strengthen its democratic institutions, uphold the supremacy of the Constitution, promote parliamentary traditions, and continue serving the people with integrity, commitment, and a strong sense of national responsibility.
