Multan, July 1, 2026: High Commissioner of Malaysia to Pakistan, Dato’ Mohammad Azhar Mazlan, visited the University of Southern Punjab (USP), Multan, as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen educational cooperation and deepen people-to-people ties between Malaysia and Pakistan.

The Malaysian envoy was warmly received by Chairman of the Board of Governors Asim Nazir Ahmad, Rector Prof. Dr. Muhammad Mukhtar, members of the university’s senior management, faculty, students, and alumni of Malaysian higher education institutions.

Addressing a gathering at the university, the High Commissioner highlighted the pivotal role of education in promoting mutual understanding, friendship, and long-term cooperation between nations. He noted that higher education has become one of the strongest pillars of Malaysia-Pakistan relations, with Malaysia emerging as a preferred destination for Pakistani students seeking internationally recognized and high-quality education.

While acknowledging the growing number of Pakistani students studying in Malaysia, Ambassador Mazlan emphasized the importance of enhancing two-way academic mobility. He expressed hope that more Malaysian students would pursue educational opportunities in Pakistan, enabling them to gain valuable academic, cultural, and social experiences while strengthening people-to-people connections between the two countries.

The High Commissioner also encouraged universities in both countries to expand collaboration through student and faculty exchange programmes, joint research projects, academic partnerships, and knowledge-sharing initiatives. He said such cooperation would help develop future generations capable of addressing regional and global challenges.

During the visit, the envoy met Malaysian alumni serving at the university and praised their contributions to Pakistan’s higher education sector. He noted that their achievements reflect the enduring value of educational exchanges in strengthening bilateral relations.

As part of the programme, Ambassador Mazlan inaugurated the university’s School of Fashion Designing and toured various academic facilities, laboratories, and learning centres. He commended the institution’s commitment to quality education, innovation, and the development of skilled young professionals.

The High Commission of Malaysia welcomed the University of Southern Punjab’s commitment to strengthening cooperation with Malaysian institutions of higher learning and expressed its desire to further expand academic partnerships for the benefit of students, researchers, and educators in both countries.

Reaffirming Malaysia’s commitment to educational excellence, human capital development, and meaningful international collaboration, the High Commissioner said education would continue to serve as a key pillar of the longstanding friendship between Malaysia and Pakistan
