Lefkoşa, July 1, 2026: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) has strongly condemned the Israeli government’s political decision regarding the events of 1915, describing it as an attempt to divert attention from Israel’s actions in Gaza and the wider Middle East.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the ministry said the Israeli government’s decision was “a futile attempt to cover up its crimes against humanity committed against the Palestinian people” and accused Israel of exploiting historical events for political purposes.
The statement further alleged that members of the Israeli government, who it said are facing proceedings before the International Court of Justice over allegations of genocide against Palestinians, were disregarding historical and legal realities.
Referring to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, the ministry claimed that neither he nor other Israeli officials would be able to conceal what it described as crimes committed against the Palestinian people.
The ministry also criticized Israel’s growing military and strategic cooperation with the Greek Cypriot Administration, alleging that it reflects an expansion of what it called Israel’s “expansionist and provocative policies” from the Middle East to the Eastern Mediterranean.
It accused Israel of launching a political campaign against Türkiye in response to Ankara’s continued criticism of Israeli policies and its support for the Palestinian cause.
Reaffirming its support for Türkiye, the ministry praised Ankara’s stance, saying it has consistently acted in accordance with international law and has been among the strongest international voices condemning Israel’s actions in the occupied Palestinian territories.
The statement concluded by expressing solidarity with the Palestinian people and calling on Israel to immediately end the violence in the Middle East.
