Washington, November 16, 2024-A group of 46 US congressmen has written a letter to President Joe Biden, urging the implementation of a resolution passed by the US House of Representatives regarding human rights violations in Pakistan. The lawmakers expressed grave concern over what they describe as widespread abuses under the current Pakistani government.

The letter highlights the government’s efforts to prevent the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), the country’s most popular political party, from participating in the general elections held on February 8, 2024. Despite alleged state-sanctioned violence and widespread electoral manipulation, the PTI-backed independent candidates secured a majority of seats.

The congressmen note that when the PTI protested against the rigging of the elections, the government responded with severe measures, violating the rights of party workers. Additionally, the letter alleges that the government obstructed the release of reports documenting tampering with election results.

However, the letter does not address the Kashmir issue or mention any incidents of terrorism in Pakistan, focusing solely on the human rights situation related to the electoral process.

The letter is a call to action for the US administration to hold Pakistan accountable for these alleged abuses and ensure that the rights of the Pakistani people are respected.
