Jhelum, November 16, 2024- An awareness walk aimed at preventing smog and raising public awareness was organized under the leadership of Deputy Commissioner Jhelum, Muhammad Meesam Abbas. Citizens participated actively as the Deputy Commissioner distributed pamphlets and masks, emphasizing precautionary measures to combat smog.

The walk highlighted the collective efforts of all departments, including the health department, under the Deputy Commissioner’s leadership to address smog prevention effectively. Speaking on the occasion, Deputy Commissioner Abbas urged citizens to wear masks to protect themselves from the adverse effects of smog.

He also noted that, following the directives of the Government of Punjab and the Commissioner of Rawalpindi, the district administration has intensified action against those contributing to environmental pollution. Strict measures are being taken against individuals and entities burning kilns, factories, vehicles, and crop residue that contribute to air pollution.

Deputy Commissioner Abbas further advised vehicle owners to ensure timely repairs and maintenance of their vehicles to reduce emissions.

CEO Health District Jhelum, Mian Mazhar Hayat, also addressed the gathering, stating that under the guidance of the Primary and Secondary Health Care Department, the district administration is taking all possible steps to combat smog. He added that hospitals have been instructed to remain vigilant and prepared to handle smog-related health issues.

The initiative underscores the administration’s commitment to ensuring a healthier environment and safeguarding public health in Jhelum.
