Rawalpindi, July 24, 2026: Pakistan’s security forces thwarted a terrorist attack on a joint police check post in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Tank district during the night of July 23-24, killing 12 militants after a fierce exchange of fire, the military’s media wing said on Friday.

According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), militants belonging to what it described as the “Indian-sponsored Fitna Al Khwarij” attempted to storm the joint police check post. However, security personnel responded swiftly, preventing the attackers from breaching the facility.

The ISPR said troops pursued the fleeing militants with precision, eliminating 12 terrorists during the operation.

The military said that, in a final act of desperation, the attackers rammed an explosive-laden vehicle into the perimeter wall of the check post. The powerful blast caused extensive damage to the facility and resulted in the martyrdom of 15 personnel, including 12 military personnel, two police officials and one Forest Department official.

A sanitisation operation is underway in the area to eliminate any remaining militants, the ISPR added.

The military reaffirmed that Pakistan’s security forces and law enforcement agencies would continue nationwide counterterrorism operations under the Azm-e-Istehkam strategy, approved by the Federal Apex Committee on the National Action Plan, to eliminate what it termed foreign-sponsored terrorism.

The ISPR said the sacrifices of the martyred personnel further strengthened the nation’s resolve to safeguard Pakistan’s security and defeat terrorism.
