Cholpon-Ata, July 24, 2026: Kazakhstan and Pakistan have reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthening bilateral relations, with a renewed focus on expanding trade, economic cooperation and regional connectivity during a meeting held on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Council of Foreign Ministers meeting.

Kazakhstan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yermek Kosherbayev, met Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar to review bilateral ties and discuss regional and international developments.

The two ministers reaffirmed the strong political dialogue between Kazakhstan and Pakistan and underscored the importance of enhancing trade and economic cooperation, implementing joint projects, improving transport and logistics connectivity, and taking practical measures to achieve the goal set by the two countries’ leadership of increasing bilateral trade volume to US$1 billion.

The meeting also included an exchange of views on regional and global issues. Both sides reiterated their commitment to strengthening coordination and cooperation within international and regional organisations, including the United Nations (UN), the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO), the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), and the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA).

During the talks, the Kazakh side thanked Pakistan for supporting the initiative of Kazakhstan’s President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev to establish the International Water Organization, aimed at promoting international cooperation in sustainable water resources management.

At the conclusion of the meeting, the two foreign ministers reaffirmed their resolve to further deepen the Kazakhstan-Pakistan strategic partnership, implement the understandings reached, and maintain close political engagement.
