Bannu, November 20, 2024: Twelve security personnel embraced martyrdom in a brazen terrorist attack on a checkpost in the Mali Khel area of Bannu, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) confirmed on Wednesday. The security forces valiantly repelled the assault, killing six terrorists during the intense exchange of fire.

According to the ISPR, the terrorists attempted to storm the checkpost using an explosive-laden vehicle. Troops effectively thwarted the intrusion, forcing the attackers to detonate the vehicle against the outer wall of the post. The powerful explosion caused significant damage to the infrastructure and led to the collapse of a portion of the wall.

A sanitization operation is underway in the area to apprehend other perpetrators. The ISPR reaffirmed the resolve of security forces and law enforcement agencies to eliminate terrorism, vowing that those responsible for this heinous act would be brought to justice.

President Asif Ali Zardari paid homage to the fallen soldiers, stating, “The entire nation salutes those who laid down their lives for the security of the motherland.” He reiterated the nation’s unwavering commitment to eradicating terrorism.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also expressed profound grief over the loss of lives, praising the martyrs for their bravery and sacrifices. “The sacrifices of our soldiers will not go in vain,” he assured the nation.

Chief of Army Staff General Asim Munir, addressing a meeting of the Apex Committee on the National Action Plan chaired by the Prime Minister on Tuesday, warned of severe consequences for those threatening Pakistan’s security. “Every Pakistani is a soldier in the fight against terrorism, and we must join hands to combat this menace,” he said.

The Army Chief emphasized the military’s constitutional duty to ensure Pakistan’s internal and external security and highlighted the sacrifices made by the Pakistan Army and law enforcement agencies to counter governance-related challenges and restore peace.

This incident underscores the ongoing challenges posed by terrorism and the unyielding resolve of Pakistan’s security forces in safeguarding the nation.
