Islamabad, August 4, 2026: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has announced record recoveries worth Rs2.452 trillion during the second quarter of 2026, taking its total recoveries for the first six months of the year to an unprecedented Rs5.414 trillion, while also launching a major transformation towards an artificial intelligence (AI)-powered anti-corruption investigation system.
According to a NAB press release issued on Tuesday, the bureau recovered more than 1.078 million acres of state land across Balochistan, Sindh, Punjab and the Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) during the second quarter, significantly boosting the value of direct and indirect recoveries.
NAB Sukkur recorded the highest recoveries after, in collaboration with the Sindh Board of Revenue and the provincial Forest Department, it reclaimed 853,678 acres of National Highway Authority (NHA), forest and irrigation department land valued at Rs1.01 trillion. The recovered land was subsequently transferred in the name of the Sindh government.
NAB Balochistan recovered 209,544 acres of forest land, including areas within Hingol National Park along the Coastal Highway and land belonging to the Gwadar Industrial Estate Development Authority (GIEDA), with an estimated value of Rs604.64 billion.
Meanwhile, NAB Karachi recovered 11,422 acres of illegally allotted state land and disputed leases issued to housing societies and private individuals, valued at Rs467.11 billion.
NAB Lahore recovered 1,909 acres of Pakistan Cotton Board Limited (PCBL) and other state land worth Rs288.29 billion, while NAB Islamabad/Rawalpindi reclaimed 810 acres of CDA amenity plots in various housing societies valued at Rs66.63 billion. NAB Multan also recovered 920 acres of state land worth Rs2.76 billion.
The bureau said it also provided relief to victims of housing and financial fraud by returning Rs42.303 billion in cash and assets to more than 24,365 affected individuals during the reporting period.
In a major institutional reform, NAB announced the complete transition to a paperless E-Office system and revealed that it has entered the next phase of digital transformation by introducing an AI-based electronic investigation regime.
According to the bureau, the new AI-powered system will use machine learning to detect suspicious patterns, identify high-risk cases, accelerate investigations and analyse documentary and oral evidence. NAB said the technology would minimise human discretion and help produce evidence-based, tamper-proof investigations.
The bureau also announced that the Pakistan Anti-Corruption Academy (PACA) has been fully operationalised as a centre of excellence to strengthen the professional capacity of its workforce.
Reaffirming its commitment to eliminating corruption, NAB said it would continue focusing on the recovery of looted public money and state assets through deterrence, prevention and public awareness initiatives.
The bureau stated that its total recoveries between March 2023 and June 2026 have reached Rs16.938 trillion, describing the figure as evidence of its sustained anti-corruption campaign and zero-tolerance policy against corruption.
