Islamabad, August 19, 2026: The Chinese Embassy in Pakistan on Wednesday held a symposium to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the birth of former Chinese President and Communist Party of China leader Jiang Zemin.
Shi Yuanqiang, Chargé d’Affaires of the Chinese Embassy, attended the event along with prominent Pakistani guests, including Special Representative to the Prime Minister on China Affairs Zafar Uddin Mahmood, former Deputy Chairman of the Planning Commission Akram Sheikh and former Pakistani ambassadors to China.
Representatives of Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, think tanks and the overseas Chinese community also attended the symposium.
Speaking at the event, Shi Yuanqiang highlighted the remarks of Chinese President Xi Jinping at a gathering commemorating the centenary of Jiang Zemin’s birth. He said President Xi had paid tribute to Jiang’s contributions to the Communist Party of China and the Chinese people and called for learning from his leadership and continuing to advance socialism with Chinese characteristics.
Shi said Jiang Zemin had consistently attached importance to China-Pakistan relations and had made efforts to promote their development.
He reaffirmed China’s readiness to work with Pakistan to further strengthen the all-weather strategic cooperative partnership between the two countries and open a new chapter in bilateral relations.
Pakistani participants paid tribute to Jiang Zemin as an outstanding Chinese leader who made significant contributions to China’s reform and opening-up, economic modernisation and national development.
They also described Jiang as an important promoter of Pakistan-China relations, noting his role in strengthening ties between the two countries.
The Pakistani side expressed its readiness to continue working with China to further deepen bilateral cooperation and build a stronger future for Pakistan-China relations.
