Islamabad, August 28, 2026: The National Assembly on Friday unanimously adopted a resolution expressing profound grief and sorrow over the tragic loss of innocent newborn lives in the recent fire at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS), Islamabad, and called for strict action against those found responsible for negligence or safety lapses.

The resolution strongly condemned the tragic incident and expressed grave concern over the circumstances surrounding the deaths of the infants. The House stressed that any negligence or failure to comply with prescribed safety measures resulting in the loss of precious lives could not be overlooked.

The resolution called upon the government to ascertain the facts surrounding the incident, determine responsibility for any negligence or safety violations and take appropriate legal action against those found responsible.

The National Assembly stressed that accountability must be ensured wherever negligence or failure to observe mandatory safety protocols contributed to the tragedy.

The House also called for strict implementation of fire-safety protocols and comprehensive emergency preparedness measures in federal government hospitals, particularly in neonatal and paediatric units.

It emphasised the need to strengthen safety arrangements and emergency response mechanisms to prevent the recurrence of such tragedies in the future.

The National Assembly extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and prayed for strength and fortitude for them to bear the irreparable loss.

The resolution was moved by MNA Daniyal Chaudhry, Parliamentary Secretary for Information and Broadcasting and Federal Coordinator of the Parliamentary Caucus on Child Rights, during Friday’s session of the National Assembly.
