Islamabad, September 12, 2026: Ambassador of Romania to Pakistan Dan Stoenescu joined the opening ceremony of the 5th European Film Festival in Islamabad, highlighting the power of cinema to bring people together and promote cultural understanding.

Speaking on the occasion, Ambassador Stoenescu said the European Union stood united in support of art, cultural exchange and freedom of expression, describing these values as central to Europe’s identity.

He stressed the importance of dialogue and open discussion, saying that even when a film could not be screened, there was a need to continue protecting space for artistic expression and freedom of dialogue.

“Cinema connects us,” Ambassador Stoenescu said, underscoring the role of films and cultural exchanges in strengthening understanding and ties among people.

The European Film Festival 2026 brings together cinema, culture and artistic expression, reflecting the shared commitment of Europe and Pakistan to promoting cultural exchange, dialogue and mutual understanding.
