Perth, November 25,2024- India registered a commanding 295-run victory over Australia in the first Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, played at the WACA Ground. The match, which began on November 22, concluded on the fourth day with Australia being bowled out for 238 runs in their chase of a daunting 534-run target.

India, after winning the toss, opted to bat first but managed only 150 runs in their opening innings. In response, Australia fared worse, being bundled out for a mere 104 runs, giving India a slim first-innings lead.

In their second innings, India bounced back strongly, declaring at 487/6. Yashasvi Jaiswal played a magnificent knock of 161 runs, while Virat Kohli contributed an impressive century (100 runs). KL Rahul also made a notable impact with 77 runs. This left Australia needing an improbable 534 runs for victory.

Australia’s batting lineup faltered under pressure, as Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah proved unstoppable. Bumrah claimed eight wickets in the match, dismantling Australia’s resistance. Despite a determined effort, the Australian team was bowled out for 238 runs, sealing India’s emphatic win.

The second Test of the five-match series is scheduled to begin on December 5 in Adelaide and will be played as a day-night encounter.

This victory gives India a significant psychological edge as they aim to retain the prestigious Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
