Bridgetown, September 21, 2026: Antigua and Barbuda Falcons won their maiden Caribbean Premier League (CPL) title in just their third season, defeating tournament debutants Jamaica Kingsmen by eight wickets in the final on Sunday, with Pakistan’s Sufyan Moqim playing a key role in the Falcons’ victory.
Moqim produced a match-turning spell of four for 14, dismantling the Kingsmen’s middle order after Maaz Sadaqat had kept the side in contention with a brilliant 114 off 58 balls.
Sadaqat dominated the Kingsmen innings, smashing nine sixes and eight fours to score more than half of his team’s 170 for nine. His explosive century came after the Kingsmen slipped to 30 for two, with Sadaqat and Saim Ayub rebuilding the innings through an 80-run third-wicket partnership.
The Kingsmen appeared on course for a substantially bigger total when they reached 110 for two, but Moqim changed the momentum in the 12th over.
The Pakistan spinner dismissed Ayub and then Rovman Powell in quick succession, triggering a dramatic collapse. The Kingsmen fell from 110 for two to 113 for six within three overs, with Moqim finishing with outstanding figures of four for 14.
Sadaqat continued his assault despite the collapse around him and eventually fell off the penultimate ball of the innings. His 58-ball 114 remained the defining individual performance of the Kingsmen’s innings, but the lack of support from the middle and lower order restricted them to 170 for nine.
The Falcons’ chase began aggressively, with Rahkeem Cornwall taking 20 runs from the opening over before being dismissed. Evin Lewis and Amir Jangoo then added 64 for the second wicket to put the chase firmly under control.
After Lewis fell for 38, Jangoo and Hasan Nawaz completed the chase with an unbeaten 89-run partnership. Jangoo finished on 57 not out and Nawaz on 47 not out as the Falcons reached the target with 20 balls to spare.
Shadab Khan was named tournament MVP after contributing 132 runs and 11 wickets during the competition.
Moqim’s four-wicket burst and Sadaqat’s remarkable century stood out as two of the final’s most significant individual performances, although the Falcons’ collective effort ultimately secured their first CPL championship.
