Islamabad, September 22, 2026: Chairman Capital Development Authority (CDA) visited Kashmir Chowk on Tuesday to review progress on the ongoing underpass project and measures being taken to improve traffic flow at one of Islamabad’s busiest junctions.
During the visit, the Director General Infrastructure briefed the chairman on the progress of the Kashmir Chowk Underpass Project, ongoing construction activities, project timelines and measures being adopted for its timely completion.
The chairman said the project was aimed at improving vehicular movement, reducing waiting times and easing congestion, particularly during peak hours.
He also reviewed the prevailing traffic situation at Kashmir Chowk and adjoining roads and inspected temporary traffic management arrangements.
The chairman directed the concerned formations to ensure effective short-term traffic management until completion of the permanent infrastructure solution, with minimum inconvenience to commuters.
He was also briefed on a traffic management solution for Kashmir Chowk and Murree Road aimed at addressing existing bottlenecks and improving traffic flow. He directed the relevant departments to implement the measures through close coordination and a comprehensive strategy.
The CDA chairman instructed officers to expedite development projects and ensure their completion within stipulated timelines while maintaining quality, engineering and safety standards.
He also called for special attention to peak-hour traffic management, lane management, road improvements and connectivity between major roads and arteries.
The concerned DG Infrastructure, project directors and field officers were directed to conduct regular site inspections and closely monitor the pace and quality of work. Any bottlenecks affecting project implementation should be identified and resolved promptly, he added.
The chairman said public facilitation, improved mobility, modern infrastructure and effective traffic management remained key CDA priorities.
He said work was being accelerated on underpasses, bridges, roads and other major development projects across Islamabad to improve infrastructure and address traffic-related issues. Such projects would also contribute to commercial and economic activities in the capital, he added.
Citizens and daily commuters at Kashmir Chowk appreciated the CDA’s efforts to address traffic problems and develop modern infrastructure. They expressed hope that timely completion of the underpass and other road projects would provide long-term relief and improve traffic flow.
