Islamabad, September 22, 2026: Speaker National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq on Tuesday held a meeting with Speaker of the People’s Majlis of the Maldives Abdul Raheem Abdulla and a parliamentary delegation visiting Pakistan to discuss ways to strengthen bilateral and parliamentary cooperation.
The Maldivian delegation arrived at Parliament House on an official visit, where it was warmly received by Speaker Ayaz Sadiq.
During the meeting, the two sides discussed bilateral relations, with particular focus on expanding parliamentary linkages and institutional cooperation between the two legislatures.
Ayaz Sadiq said the visit would help strengthen institutional ties between the parliaments of Pakistan and the Maldives.
He said Pakistan attached great importance to its longstanding and friendly relations with the Maldives and expressed the desire to further expand parliamentary cooperation between the two countries.
The speaker highlighted the role of the Pak-Maldives Parliamentary Friendship Group in promoting parliamentary contacts and cooperation.
He also briefed the delegation about various parliamentary forums operating within the National Assembly, including the Young Parliamentary Forums, SDGs Secretariat, Women Parliamentary Caucus and Child Rights Caucus.
Abdul Raheem Abdulla said the Maldives also attached great importance to its friendly relations with Pakistan.
He appreciated the goodwill expressed by the National Assembly speaker towards the Maldives and thanked him for his support during the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association Conference in Cape Town.
The Maldivian speaker also thanked Ayaz Sadiq for the warm welcome extended to him and members of the delegation.
The delegation is visiting Pakistan at the invitation of Speaker National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq.
Convener of the Pak-Maldives Parliamentary Friendship Group Shaista Khan and MNAs Syeda Nosheen Iftikhar, Daniyal Chaudhary, Asfand Yar Bhundara and Asia Naz Tanoli, along with other women members of the National Assembly, attended the meeting.
