Islamabad, December 10, 2024: On the occasion of International Human Rights Day, former President Asif Ali Zardari reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to upholding and promoting human rights, emphasizing the importance of these values at all levels of society.

In his message, Zardari noted the alignment of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, adopted by the United Nations in 1948, with the principles of Islam. He underscored that Pakistan’s constitution guarantees fundamental rights to all its citizens, reflecting the country’s dedication to justice and equality.

Highlighting the interconnectedness of democracy, peace, freedom, and human rights, Zardari stressed the need to protect the rights of vulnerable groups, including women, children, senior citizens, persons with disabilities, and minorities. He described this protection as essential for fostering stability and prosperity.

Zardari also drew attention to the plight of people living under oppression, particularly in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), where he condemned the ongoing state terrorism and denial of basic rights.

Additionally, he strongly condemned what he termed the ethnic cleansing and genocide of Palestinians in Gaza and other occupied territories by Israel. He urged the international community to take immediate and effective measures to end these atrocities and hold those responsible accountable.

Zardari’s message on this day served as a reminder of Pakistan’s long-standing stance on global human rights challenges, including the crises in IIOJK and Palestine.
