Gwadar, January 20, 2025: Pakistan achieved a historic milestone on Monday as the first commercial flight landed at the newly inaugurated New Gwadar International Airport, signaling the start of a new era in the country’s aviation and economic landscape.

Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) flight PK-503 departed Karachi at 9:50 AM, carrying 46 passengers, and touched down at 11:15 AM at the state-of-the-art facility. The event marks the official commencement of operations at the country’s largest airport, which spans an impressive 4,300 acres.

Defence and Aviation Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif was present to welcome the landmark flight. During the ceremony, he highlighted the airport’s critical role in transforming Gwadar into a hub of trade, tourism, and global connectivity. “This airport is not just an aviation facility; it symbolizes Gwadar’s strategic importance in fostering economic growth and serving as a key link between Pakistan and the world,” he said.

The inaugural flight received a water cannon salute as it arrived, underscoring the significance of the occasion. A PIA spokesperson expressed pride in the achievement, describing the airport’s opening as a vital step in boosting regional and international trade.

The New Gwadar International Airport is expected to enhance Pakistan’s connectivity to destinations in the UAE, Europe, the Far East, Central Asia, and Africa. It is poised to unlock a wide range of economic opportunities and promote regional tourism, cementing Gwadar’s position as a key player in global trade and development.

This milestone reinforces Gwadar’s role as a cornerstone of Pakistan’s economic ambitions and reflects the government’s commitment to investing in infrastructure that drives growth and prosperity.
