Dubai, January 24, 2025: The ICC Men’s ODI Team of the Year for 2024 was unveiled on Friday, with three players each from Pakistan and Afghanistan making the cut. In a surprising omission, no Indian player was included in the list, largely due to India’s limited engagement in the 50-over format last year.

India played only three ODIs in 2024 — an away series against Sri Lanka — losing two matches and tying one. This lack of activity starkly contrasted with teams like Sri Lanka, who played 18 ODIs, the most by any side during the year.

Sri Lanka’s captain, Charith Asalanka, was named skipper of the ICC team in recognition of his stellar performances. Asalanka scored 605 runs across 16 ODIs at an impressive average of 50.2, including one century and four half-centuries. Under his leadership, Sri Lanka won 12 out of their 18 matches.

Pakistan had a successful year as well, winning seven of their nine ODIs, while Afghanistan registered eight victories in 14 games. West Indies’ explosive all-rounder Sherfane Rutherford was the lone non-Asian player in the lineup. Rutherford, who debuted in 2023, impressed with 425 runs from nine matches at a stunning average of 106.2.

The ICC Men’s ODI Team of the Year for 2024:

  • Charith Asalanka (C) (Sri Lanka)
  • Saim Ayub (Pakistan)
  • Rahmanullah Gurbaz (Afghanistan)
  • Pathum Nissanka (Sri Lanka)
  • Kusal Mendis (WK) (Sri Lanka)
  • Sherfane Rutherford (West Indies)
  • Azmatullah Omarzai (Afghanistan)
  • Wanindu Hasaranga (Sri Lanka)
  • Shaheen Shah Afridi (Pakistan)
  • Haris Rauf (Pakistan)
  • AM Ghazanfar (Afghanistan)
