Peshawar, January 28, 2025: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan has formally accepted the resignation of Ali Amin Gandapur as the president of PTI Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP). This development comes days after Gandapur was replaced by Junaid Akbar as the new KP president in what is being viewed as part of the party’s broader political strategy.

Gandapur’s resignation, submitted at the direction of PTI’s founder, was approved by Imran Khan, marking a significant reshuffle in the party’s provincial leadership.

The change was announced by PTI Secretary General Barrister Salman Akram Raja, with Junaid Akbar taking over as PTI K-P president. Akbar’s appointment coincided with his unopposed election as Chairman of the National Assembly’s Public Accounts Committee (PAC)—a position that had been vacant since the February 2024 general elections.

Gandapur, a close confidante of Imran Khan and a key figure in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa politics, was relieved of his leadership role amid growing speculation about his political future. However, rumors regarding his potential replacement as KP Chief Minister were dismissed, with sources indicating that the matter was not raised during his recent meeting with the PTI chairman.

On Monday, Gandapur met Imran Khan at Adiala Jail, where the two leaders reportedly discussed development projects and the security situation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The hour-long meeting sparked political attention, though Gandapur avoided addressing the media afterward.

The reshuffling of leadership in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is seen as a pivotal move as PTI navigates complex political dynamics, including ongoing negotiations with the ruling PML-N coalition.

Junaid Akbar’s appointment signals a strategic realignment aimed at strengthening PTI’s position in the region, which remains critical to the party’s broader national agenda.

As the political landscape evolves, the leadership transition in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is expected to play a key role in shaping PTI’s strategy for the region and beyond.
