Lahore, February 7, 2025: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif formally inaugurated the newly renovated Gaddafi Stadium on Friday, marking a significant milestone ahead of the ICC Men’s Champions Trophy 2025, which will take place in Pakistan from February 19 to March 9. The premier was accompanied by Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi, and other officials as they unveiled the extensively upgraded venue, which underwent a major transformation in just 117 days.

In his address at the ceremony, PM Shehbaz instructed PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi to acknowledge the workers involved in the stadium’s renovation by rewarding them with a trip to London as a token of appreciation for their dedication. He also praised the Pakistan cricket team for their recent outstanding performances and expressed confidence that they would make the nation proud in the Champions Trophy, especially in their much-anticipated match against India in Dubai.

Highlighting the significance of the tournament, the prime minister emphasized that the Champions Trophy’s return to Pakistan after 29 years was a momentous occasion. He assured that the Punjab government and PCB would take every necessary measure to ensure foolproof security arrangements for the event.

The inauguration ceremony was a grand affair, attended by several politicians, government officials, PCB executives, PSL franchise owners, and former PCB chairmen Zaka Ashraf and Najam Sethi. The national men’s cricket team was also present. Fans were treated to an elaborate celebration featuring a dazzling light show, fireworks, and live performances by renowned artists Ali Zafar, Arif Lohar, and Aima Baig, making the event a memorable spectacle.

The renovation of Gaddafi Stadium has brought it up to modern international standards. The venue now boasts brand-new LED floodlights, two high-tech scoreboard screens, upgraded and more comfortable seating in all enclosures, newly constructed hospitality boxes, and enhanced facilities for both players and spectators.

Gaddafi Stadium is set to host two matches of the upcoming tri-nation ODI series featuring Pakistan, New Zealand, and South Africa on February 8 and 10. During the Champions Trophy, it will be the venue for at least four crucial matches, including the second semi-final on March 5. If India fails to qualify, the stadium may also host the grand final on March 9.

With Pakistan eagerly anticipating the Champions Trophy, the revamped Gaddafi Stadium stands as a symbol of the country’s commitment to hosting world-class cricket and providing fans with an unforgettable experience.
