Cuttack, February 9, 2025: Rohit Sharma’s blistering 119 off 90 balls powered India to a commanding six-wicket victory over England in the second ODI, securing the series with a match to spare.

Chasing 305, India’s skipper dominated early, forging a 136-run opening stand with Shubman Gill (60). Despite late stutters, India comfortably crossed the finish line with 33 balls to spare. Rohit’s century, his first in 11 months, came in 76 balls and showcased a return to form.

England, still struggling under new coach Brendon McCullum, wasted strong starts. Joe Root (69) top-scored, but a mid-innings collapse restricted them to 304 all out. Their seamers, including Mark Wood and Saqib Mahmood, failed to trouble India’s batters under the lights.

With six defeats in seven matches on this tour, England’s struggles continue ahead of their Champions Trophy opener against Australia on February 22. All-rounder Jacob Bethell’s hamstring injury has further added to their woes.

England captain Jos Buttler: “We did a lot of things well but needed to push towards 350. Rohit played a terrific knock.”

India captain Rohit Sharma: “I really enjoyed scoring runs again. The middle overs were crucial, and we handled them well.”

The final ODI will be played in Ahmedabad on Wednesday.
