Bolan, March 11, 2025: A Peshawar-bound passenger train, Jaffar Express, came under intense firing near Balochistan’s Bolan district on Tuesday, prompting the provincial government to impose emergency measures. The attack, which took place between Pehro Kunri and Gadalar, has left several passengers, including the train’s driver, injured.

Balochistan government spokesperson Shahid Rind confirmed the incident, stating that security forces and rescue teams were facing difficulties in reaching the site due to the region’s mountainous terrain. “There are reports of intense firing at Jaffar Express. Emergency has been declared, and all institutions are on high alert,” he said.

The Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) has claimed responsibility for the attack. A spokesperson for the banned outfit stated that its fighters stopped the train and held passengers hostage. “If the army launches any operation, there will be serious consequences,” warned the spokesperson in a statement circulating on social media.

The train, which departed from Quetta at 9:30 AM, was carrying approximately 600 to 700 passengers when unknown armed individuals opened fire as it passed through the Piru Gandala area. According to eyewitnesses and Levies sources, the train was halted in a tunnel surrounded by mountains, making it difficult for security forces to access.

Controller Railways Muhammad Kashif reported that the train, comprising nine coaches, was stopped in Tunnel No. 8. “Efforts are underway to establish contact with passengers and staff,” he added.

Following the attack, an emergency was declared at hospitals in Sibi and Quetta. Health Department Spokesperson Dr. Waseem Baig confirmed that medical staff, including consultants and paramedics, had been summoned to Civil Hospital Quetta.

Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi strongly condemned the attack, stating, “The beasts who fire on innocent passengers do not deserve any concessions.” Sindh Home Minister Ziaul Hassan Lanjar also expressed solidarity, affirming that “anti-national elements will not be allowed to succeed.”

Security forces have surrounded the area in the Metchi Mountains, and additional reinforcements have been dispatched. There are currently no reports of the attackers fleeing, but hostages remain in captivity. Rescue efforts are ongoing.
