Islamabad, May 4, 2025: President Asif Ali Zardari has promulgated four new ordinances, including one that significantly increases the monthly salaries of federal ministers and ministers of state, bringing them in line with those of Members of the National Assembly (MNAs).

According to the amended Federal Ministers and Ministers of State (Salaries, Allowances and Privileges) Act, 1975, the monthly salary for federal ministers has been raised to Rs519,000, up from the previous Rs200,000, while ministers of state will now also receive Rs519,000, compared to Rs180,000 earlier.

The revised pay structure will be applicable retroactively from January 1, 2025, and aims to align executive compensation with that of parliamentarians, officials said.

In addition to the salary ordinance, President Zardari enacted three other legislative measures including The National Agri-trade and Food Safety Authority (NAFSA) Ordinance, aimed at establishing a regulatory body to ensure compliance with sanitary and phytosanitary standards for agricultural imports and exports, The Tax Laws (Amendment) Ordinance, 2025, to facilitate the recovery of outstanding tax liabilities currently tied up in litigation and The Capital Development Authority (Amendment) Ordinance, 2025, introduced as part of administrative and regulatory reforms concerning urban development in the capital.
