Islamabad, June 23, 2025: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast the onset of monsoon rains across the country starting Wednesday, June 25. The rains mark the beginning of the seasonal wet spell that is crucial for replenishing water supplies and supporting agriculture, which sustains millions of livelihoods across Pakistan and the broader South Asian region.
In its official statement, the PMD reported that moist currents have begun entering the upper and central regions of the country and are expected to intensify over the next few days. A westerly wave is also projected to approach the upper parts of Pakistan on June 25, gaining strength by June 26.
In Punjab, rainfall and thunderstorms accompanied by scattered heavy falls are expected from June 25 to July 1 in numerous cities including Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Murree, Galliyat, Lahore, Faisalabad, Sialkot, Gujranwala, and other adjoining districts. Southern parts of the province, such as Multan, Bahawalpur, DG Khan, Rahimyar Khan, and Layyah, are likely to receive rainfall between June 26 and 28.
In Sindh, rain is forecast between June 25 and 28 in both upper and southeastern regions, including major urban centers such as Karachi, Hyderabad, Sukkur, Larkana, Khairpur, Jacobabad, and Mirpur Khas.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is also expected to witness widespread rainfall and thunderstorms during the period from June 25 to July 1. Rain is likely in areas including Peshawar, Mardan, Swat, Dir, Abbottabad, Dera Ismail Khan, Kohat, and the merged tribal districts.
In Balochistan, rain with isolated heavy falls is expected from the night of June 25 through June 28 in northeastern and southern regions, including Sherani, Loralai, Sibbi, Lasbela, Kalat, Khuzdar, and Dera Bugti.

The PMD has warned of the possibility of flash floods in local streams and nullahs in Murree, Galliyat, Swat, Mansehra, Kohistan, Rawalpindi, DG Khan, northeastern Punjab, and Azad Kashmir from June 26 to July 1. Urban flooding is also likely in low-lying areas of Islamabad, Lahore, Sialkot, Faisalabad, Gujranwala, Nowshera, Peshawar, Hyderabad, and Karachi during the same period.
Landslides may cause road closures in vulnerable hilly regions such as Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Murree, Galliyat, Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan. Strong winds, lightning, and heavy downpours may disrupt daily routines and damage weak infrastructure, including rooftops, walls, electric poles, billboards, and solar panels.
The Met Office has urged farmers to plan their agricultural activities accordingly. Travelers and tourists have been advised to remain cautious and consider weather conditions before setting out to avoid any untoward incidents.
Earlier in the day, several areas in Punjab recorded pre-monsoon rainfall over the past 24 hours, according to the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA).
