Peshawar, July 17, 2025: In a breakthrough development ahead of the Senate elections, the government and opposition in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa have reached a preliminary agreement on a 6/5 seat distribution formula, allocating six seats to the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and five to opposition parties.

Sources confirmed that the consensus was achieved during a late-night round of negotiations, marking a significant step forward in resolving the Senate deadlock. While the agreement sets a basic framework, further consultations are underway to address unresolved issues — particularly internal differences within the provincial government and the PTI.

According to the proposed arrangement, PTI will retain six Senate seats, while the opposition alliance will be allocated five. The seat-sharing formula is aimed at ensuring a smooth electoral process and avoiding a contested vote in the provincial assembly.

Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur has been tasked with managing PTI’s internal alignment, including securing the withdrawal of certain party-nominated candidates to reflect the new consensus. Discussions on this sensitive matter are expected to continue today.

While the agreement signals progress, final implementation remains contingent on ongoing dialogue and intra-party negotiations.
