Islamabad, July 29, 2025: Dr. Jemal Beker Abdula, Ambassador of Ethiopia to Pakistan, called on Chairman Capital Development Authority (CDA) and Chief Commissioner Islamabad, Muhammad Ali Randhawa, at the CDA Headquarters today. The meeting was held in a cordial atmosphere and focused on enhancing bilateral cooperation, particularly in urban development, sustainable city management, and tree plantation initiatives.

Chairman CDA briefed the ambassador on the authority’s recent achievements and ongoing development projects across Islamabad. He highlighted the CDA’s strategic vision to transform the capital into a modern, inclusive, and environmentally sustainable city. Special emphasis was laid on efforts to rehabilitate water channels and create eco-friendly public spaces that contribute to the city’s livability and international standing.

Ambassador Dr. Jemal Beker proposed Ethiopia’s participation in Islamabad’s Margalla Hills plantation campaign, drawing inspiration from Ethiopia’s successful Green Corridor Project in Addis Ababa. In response, Chairman Randhawa welcomed the proposal and announced that land would be allocated for the creation of an “Ethiopia–Pakistan Fraternity Park” in Islamabad under Ethiopia’s Green Legacy Initiative.

The chairman also endorsed the idea of establishing a sister-city relationship between Islamabad and Addis Ababa to promote people-to-people ties, cultural exchange, and collaboration in areas such as municipal governance, riverbank restoration, and green urban infrastructure. He acknowledged Ethiopia’s valuable expertise in sustainable urban development and expressed interest in mutual learning.

Ambassador Beker commended the CDA’s performance under Chairman Randhawa’s leadership and lauded the transformation of Islamabad into a model capital. He reiterated Ethiopia’s commitment to strengthening cooperation in sustainable urban infrastructure and environment-friendly growth and expressed interest in learning from Pakistan’s capital city development experience.

Both sides agreed to explore further avenues of collaboration, including smart city solutions, urban forestry, and institutional partnerships for capacity building and technical exchange. The meeting concluded with a mutual commitment to advance practical cooperation through sustained dialogue and engagement.
