Islamabad, August 7, 2025: A delegation of Islamabad’s parliamentarians, led by Federal Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Dr. Tariq Fazal Chaudhry, Chairman of the National Assembly Standing Committee on Interior and Narcotics Raja Khurram Shahzad Nawaz, and MNA Anjum Aqeel Khan, met with Chairman Capital Development Authority (CDA) and Chief Commissioner Islamabad Muhammad Ali Randhawa at the CDA headquarters on Thursday.

The meeting focused on addressing key issues faced by residents in both urban and rural areas of the federal capital. Senior CDA board members and heads of relevant departments were also in attendance.

Chairman Randhawa welcomed the parliamentarians and stressed the importance of strong coordination between elected representatives and civic authorities to ensure effective governance and development. He acknowledged the significant role parliamentarians play in steering and supporting ongoing development projects.

The lawmakers appreciated the initiatives launched under Randhawa’s leadership, particularly in infrastructure, urban beautification, and public welfare, and assured their full cooperation. They also shared suggestions for addressing citizen concerns more effectively.

During the meeting, a wide range of projects were discussed, including beautification of highways and green belts, particularly along Islamabad Expressway, expansion of sports facilities under Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives, upgrading of existing parks and allocation of land for new recreational spaces, installation of decorative lighting in public spaces and construction of new highways and underpasses

In line with the chairman’s direction, the Director General Environment was appointed as the focal person for optimizing the use of parks, green belts, and open spaces.

Chairman Randhawa informed the delegation about the recent establishment of the Islamabad Water Authority to address long-standing water and sewage problems. He also announced that land would be allocated for new graveyards in Islamabad, and suitable locations were being identified.

The parliamentarians also highlighted the positive impact of electric buses and called for route expansion. The chairman assured that existing routes would be reviewed and new ones introduced based on public demand.

The delegation was also briefed on CDA’s ongoing crackdown against illegal constructions and encroachments, with Randhawa emphasizing that operations were being conducted across the capital in coordination with ICT authorities. He added that tree plantation efforts were being linked to these operations to enhance the city’s environment.

The lawmakers also praised the implementation of a cashless and paperless system in CDA. Randhawa said that further steps are being taken to digitize administrative functions and ensure transparency.

To ensure timely resolution of citizen issues, it was decided to establish a follow-up mechanism for regular progress reviews on all matters discussed during the meeting.
