Jeddah, August 26, 2025: The Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) on Tuesday unanimously rejected Israel’s so-called “Greater Israel” plan, adopting a resolution that condemned Israeli actions in Gaza and urged the United Nations to impose sanctions and suspend Israel’s membership.
The resolution, supported by 31 member states, including Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, and Turkey, declared Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s plan a violation of international law and a threat to the security and territorial integrity of Arab states. It further demanded accountability for alleged war crimes, including the killing of Palestinian journalists, through proceedings at the International Court of Justice.
The foreign ministers called for:
- An immediate and permanent ceasefire
- Unhindered humanitarian aid to Gaza
- The release of prisoners
- International sanctions against violent Jewish settlers, labeling them terrorists
The resolution also warned that Israel’s continued annexation drive and plans for full occupation of Gaza would destabilize the entire region.
Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, representing Pakistan, strongly backed the resolution. Speaking at the 21st Extraordinary Session of the OIC Council of Foreign Ministers in Jeddah, he described Israel’s campaign in Gaza as “collective punishment” and demanded that the international community impose accountability.
“Israel’s declared intent to occupy Gaza City is a deliberate attempt to obliterate Palestinian existence and heritage, it must be firmly opposed,” Dar said.
Dar reiterated Pakistan’s demand for an unconditional ceasefire, an end to forced displacement and settlement expansion, and protection for civilian infrastructure including hospitals, schools, and mosques. He also called for urgent support for UNRWA to sustain millions of Palestinians facing famine and displacement.
Underscoring Pakistan’s role as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council, Dar vowed to work with OIC and Arab partners to push for Palestine’s right to self-determination and full UN membership. “As long as Israel’s illegal occupation endures, peace will remain elusive,” he declared.
Other Muslim leaders echoed Pakistan’s stance.
- Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan warned that Israel would continue its “occupation and oppression” without a ceasefire, urging the UN General Assembly to seize the upcoming session as a decisive opportunity.
- Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan rejected Israeli settlements in the West Bank, reaffirmed the demand for an independent Palestinian state and welcomed growing global momentum for a two-state solution.
“As the voice and conscience of the Muslim world, the OIC must grasp this opportunity and act with a strong united voice,” Dar emphasized, urging financial and technical support for Palestinian institutions to stand on firm foundations.
